Convening Agenda: We are Healing 2 Panel, Policy Recommendations and Peer Navigation

As part of the two-year project, The California Alliance of Child and Family Services and The Catalyst Center will be hosting a total of 6 convenings.

This convening is the 3rd and final convening for 2023.

Schedule for Wednesday October 18th @ 9am-12pm

We regularly engage TAY, providers and other community partners in conversation about recommendations but this convening is an opportunity to come together to listen, refine and vote on those we want most to move forward.

We will also hear from a panel of former foster youth participating in a healing through arts and music program with Journey House, and from peer navigators with Spark sharing how they are supporting TAY to not just survive but thrive.

Agenda:

9:00-9:15am - Welcome and Overview of the Progress on the Project

9:15-10:15am - We are Healing 2 Panel

10:15-10:20am - Break

10:20-11:00am - Policy Recommendations and Contractual Changes Conversation

11am-11:55am - Peer Navigators Presentation and Q&A

11:55am-12pm - Next Steps and Announcements

9:15am-10:15am Journey House

Made possible in partnership with our Take Action LA grant received from LA DMH and MHSA, the Catalyst Center was able to contribute to part II of the We Are Healing Project. We distributed the Riot! former foster youth poetry anthology during our in-person May Convening.

Panel Discussion

Moderated by Michael Papias. Visual and Performing Arts Director at Journey House, this hour will feature a panel of artists who participated in the We are Healing part 2 project, speaking about how participation in these photo essays that explore music has contributed to their healing.

Overview of recommendations and vote

During the 10:20am-11:00am block of the convening we'll go over some of the policy and contractual change recommendations that we have been discussing in committee meetings and TAY focus groups. Then we will provide an opportunity for participants to support or oppose and finally rank the ones most important to them. Some of the recommendations are in the image to the right which we will explain further for those not yet engaged in the discussions.

SPARK Peer Navigation

During the 11am-12pm hour, Peer Navigators will be speaking about how to create a renter's portfolio to help increase rental opportunities, how to dispute credit issues via credit karma to raise credit scores, how to identify individual supportive landlords vs. listings offered by property managements companies, and share how building rapport can be a real game changer. From their own experiences, peer navigators will share their stories and expertise and offer plenty of time to answer questions.
